Vintage Kantha quilts

Posted: Jul 09 2012

Hand made from recycled saris, these vintage quilts are hand picked during our travels. To create each of these one-of-a-kind quilts, female artisans in and around Calcutta, India, cut and stitch vibrantly hued recycled vintage cotton saris by hand, using a traditional embroidery technique called kantha to form intricate designs. Because of how these quilts are made, each is unique in color, pattern and design and are mellowed by years of washing. These are all close to 60" x 90" (Twin size) and hence can be used as a bedcover, blanket or throw.

Make your quilt rod / hanging sleeve from a patchwork of all the fabric used in your quilt. Then, if you need to repair anything on the quilt top later, you will have a selection of the right fabrics to use.
